Transferring these general learning outcomes to college union contexts can be grounded in an understanding that students need to also recognize that their institution is a nonprofit organization. Knowing that their gift is going to make a difference and creating an opportunity for current and future students to have a similar experience make a compelling reason for donors contribute. Donors are looking for ways to say thank you and demonstrate their appreciation for their experiences (Gary & Adess, 2008). Establishing a student philanthropy model that is housed within a college union provides the opportunity for discussions and connections to the programmatic and facility needs within the collegiate environment. Last, this model can offer the opportunity for donors to designate a gift toward this learning activity.
